For A Secure America

"But Tancredo is actually a great deal more than a single-issue candidate with a penchant for controversy. He's also a rare fiscal conservative who means what he says (he voted against the Medicare prescription drug program and was one of few in Congress who attempted to control post-Katrina spending); an advocate for human rights around the globe; a tax hawk who campaigns against outdated, economically foolish levies; and a relentless critic of bureaucratic complacency (which he proved again when he was one of the first Republicans last year to call for the resignation of Michael Brown as head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency)." - Rocky Mountain News endorsement, October 18, 2006

"Tom Tancredo is pulling the immigration debate to the right - and away from Bush..." - Newsweek, April 3, 2006

I stopped being a Republican a long time ago. Republican’s have forgotten what it means to be Republican. While I am a member of the Constitution Party, I am highly unimpressed with their choice of political frontrunners for the 2008 presidential nomination. The Constitution Party is rapidly gaining in the local and regional arena however, they aren’t national competition yet. I hope someday they will be.

Before this past week, I had never heard of the Congressman from Colorado who also served in the Department of Education under Reagan and Bush Sr., Tom Tancredo. I believe, from what I have read and seen of him, that he is a man who has the pulse of the nation on a variety of different issues. I believe he is a man who wants to limit government and protect our porous borders. I believe he is a man who recognizes our need to control spending and regain fiscal responsibility. I believe he is a man who understands the value of education and the importance of the traditional two parents, one man and one woman, household. I also believe him to be a man of faith.

As I looked around at other so-called Republican candidates who have declared their intention to pursue the presidency I was disgusted at the choices. Rudy is too moderate to hold the conservative base; he is pro-choice and pro-gun control. I really like Newt, but he's been out of the picture for too long, plus he is still wounded from his battle with Clinton while Speaker of the House. McCain is also a moderate and he just hasn't been impressive in my view. Pataki....well, who the heck is he? Never heard of him, before his name drop for the nomination. Romney is pro-choice, pro-gay rights....no thank you! How can you call yourself Republican and be pro-choice or pro-gay rights?

Congressman Tancredo’s voting record clearly defines his character and priorities.

I hope you’ll give this man with a clear vision your thoughtful consideration and after such time, if you feel as strongly as I do about it, that you’ll take the time to visit his site and sign the petition that will ultimately lead to his ability to formally announce his candidacy for President of the United States of America.

“The most important human endeavor is the striving for morality in our actions. Our inner balance and even our very existence depends on it. Only morality in our actions can give beauty and dignity to life” - Albert Einstein
