Dear Friend of American Security,
My name is Tom Tancredo. I'm going to run for the Republican nomination for President—if I can gain your support.
Let me tell you why I'm running and why I need your support.

You may have seen me on TV, or read about me in a newspaper. For the last eight years of my life, I've fought for the security of America's borders and for the right of Americans to set our own immigration policy.
When I was first elected to Congress, there was no organized effort to fight the open-borders crowd who ran Capitol Hill. Things looked very bleak for our cause. The White House was pushing for a huge Amnesty deal with Mexico.
So I formed the House Immigration Reform Caucus, which now boasts over 100 members.
Since I formed the caucus, NOT A SINGLE ILLEGAL ALIEN AMNESTY HAS PASSED in Congress! I've not hesitated to oppose the President when he has pushed deals with Mexico and Amnesties. And, yes, I believe I've been effective in my efforts.
But the other side has recently been encouraged by the election of the new liberal Congress, where the Open Borders crowd is more powerful than ever. Now Pelosi and Kennedy are in charge. They are going to fight hard for amnesties and sharply higher immigration.

Here's the thing that makes me so angry.
Half or more of the Republican Candidates for President agree with Pelosi and Kennedy, working day and night for millions more immigrants, for amnesty after amnesty.
If I don't run, the Frightening Possibility is that BOTH the Republican and Democratic nominees for President in 2008 will advocate a virtual abandonment of border security.
Don't believe it? Think about a President John McCain. He co-sponsored a bill last year to DOUBLE legal immigration. McCain SCORNS the defenders of America's borders. He HATES the border fence. He MOCKS people like us!
How about a President Sam Brownback? A good man, we all agree. But Brownback NEVER MET AN AMNESTY HE DIDN'T LIKE! He wants all illegal aliens to be made citizens.
So maybe you think Mitt Romney is better? Romney is WAFFLING on strong borders and immigration reform.
A close colleague of mine in the U.S. House has been trying to pressure the White House to pardon those two persecuted Border Patrol Agents who wounded an illegal alien drug dealer in a border skirmish.
For days, Mitt Romney avoided the calls of my colleague. Finally, last Thursday, Romney called him back. Romney said he would NOT support our efforts to obtain a pardon. "In Massachusetts," he replied, "we don't shoot unarmed suspects in the back."
Well, we don't shoot unarmed suspects in Colorado, either! But the Border Patrol Agents swore he was armed. Who should we believe—Border Patrol agents or an illegal alien drug runner who generally carried weapons?
When I'm President of the United States, the Illegal Alien Drug Dealers will go to prison for long sentences. Border Patrol Agents will be supported and valued.
My friend, do you want someone fighting in the Republican primaries who holds your views on the issues that matter most?
I'm sure you don't want amnesty supporters Rudy Guiliani or Chuck Hagel getting the nomination.
My friends, I've just about gone through the entire list of Republican candidates! Will the banner of immigration reform be waved? That depends on me getting your support.
My convictions don't change with the weather. I believe in strong borders, national security, and end to immigration abuses. I am a Reagan-style Republican.
Yes, I'm running for President, if you want me to. I simply cannot run without financial resources. Yes, campaigns require money. I must raise that money to represent you in national media and to voters across the country.

If we want to change the future, we have to sacrifice and take risks in the here and now.
Please let me hear from you.
Sincerely,
Tom Tancredo
