Many politicians continue to ignore the outcry against amnesty and their continued failure to secure the borders. They instead attempt to draw some parallel between the illegal aliens plaguing our nation and stories of immigrants long ago. That is, however, like comparing apples to asparagus; there is no comparison.
Immigrants of long ago, from mostly European countries, immigrated legally. They endured and respected the laws of this great nation. They filled out all the paperwork, waited for their place in line, and complied with the rules and regulations. Those kinds of immigrants are still welcome by this nation.
However, the issue before our political leaders and our nation isn’t about immigration. No, it’s about the violation of our nation’s laws, illegal entry and national security. What good does it do to have legislation governing entry if we don’t make people ring the doorbell before gaining access? How can that be consistent with national or homeland security?
Six thousand more border security agents won’t do much to curve the influx of people entering our nation through its porous borders. After all, we crucify our border security agents when they do their jobs and actually prevent illegal aliens and drug traffickers. We must encourage Mexico to fix their economy, but above that, we must prevent free access at our borders. The only way I know to do that is to build a physical barrier and utilize our vast and superior technology to make it impenetrable. It is possible…anyone heard of Area 51? Then, and not until then, can we attempt to figure out what to do with the criminals that are already here. However, a reward such as any form of amnesty is, for sure, not the answer.
People we must make our leadership not only hear our voices, but do as we, their employers, require of them. Despite the fact that nearly every poll demonstrates clearly that Americans are not in favor of any bill that provides amnesty and does not secure our borders, the White House and some members of the House and Senate continue act contrary to their constituents. We must flood these offices with letters, calls, and faxes. Make an appointment and go sit in their office until they meet with you.
People no longer try to enter our nation illegally through our airports. We’ve done a pretty good job of securing them. So what? Now they go to Mexico and then walk in freely. Folks, that has to stop. With that kind of access, another attack on our nation’s homeland is a statistical certainty.
The Bill the House and Senate are considering and attempting to pass today (SB1348), beyond providing amnesty to the 12-15 million illegal aliens and doing little to secure the borders, will also most likely kill Medicare and Social Security. The courts have ruled already that once a person becomes a citizen they are entitled to the social programs of our nation, like any legal person would be. That means an instant and huge increase in payout and benefits. Social programs are already in trouble. What do you think would happen?
Additionally, I heard the story of a legal Mexican immigrant today that has spent more than twenty years to reach an income of $35/hr as a master craftsman. The legalization and amnesty of the millions of criminals already here would devastate his earning potential, lowering his income to somewhere between $12 and $17/hr.
Importing poverty, killing our already fragile social programs, giving criminals a free pass and in reality rewarding them for their transgressions, as well as doing nothing to secure and protect our borders makes absolutely no-good sense. Make your votes count, hold your politicians accountable, and be heard loudly and clearly.
